Defeating homelessness together – with more clarity, courage and collective purpose

Brand messaging and storytelling strategy for a grassroots charity galvanises a team-wide shift in pride and donor communications

The problem

York Road Project were already doing vital work – providing accommodation and long-term support to people experiencing homelessness in Woking. But their strategic messaging and brand voice lacked consistency and conviction, and the website wasn’t doing their work justice.

With income from individual donors and corporates an urgent priority, they brought us in to help define their brand voice and core message. Through a full-day charity messaging workshop and improved website content, we helped them reconnect with their purpose, reach new supporters – and speak with pride and power.

We have a much more consistent message and staff are more confident when presenting and talking to people about who we are. The collaboration with Olly was excellent: his knowledge and experience helped us make good decisions on voice and the overall result of the new website is fantastic. Since the workshop, I do feel a clearer, more consistent desire across management and trustees to be more provocative in our comms
